Hey what's up Springers? Let's reminisce about the best moments of 2024?
A Christmas Lesson: Traditions, Vocabulary and Lots of Laughter! 🎄✨
On December 22nd, we get into the Christmas spirit with a conversation class full of culture, curiosities and, of course, lots of fun!
The proposal was simple: learn English while exploring Christmas traditions around the world and sharing our personal experiences.
But the result was much more than a simple class, it was a welcoming meeting full of memorable stories.
We start with some essential vocabulary for the season, including words like “wreath,” “snowman,” and “gift.”
This introduction opened the way for discussions about Christmas traditions in different countries.
We discovered, for example, that in Italy, children wait for presents from La Befana, a friendly witch, while in Germany, the feared Krampus makes sure the children stay in line. In Japan, the tradition is to enjoy fried chicken at Christmas, while in Brazil we prefer a good turkey – or, more often, the famous Chester.
The conversation also delved into our own traditions, with many sharing stories of large family gatherings, gift exchanges and even heated debates about preference between panettone and chocotone.
In addition, we explored typical foods such as eggnog, mince pie and even Brazilian eggnog, which, despite being delicious, still faces some prejudice here.
Finally, we reflect on how Christmas is celebrated in so many different ways, depending on the culture and the country.
In Brazil, it is synonymous with warmth and big family parties, while in Japan, it is often an ordinary work day, with the focus of celebrations being on New Year's.
We had a good laugh, took a group photo to record the moment and left with a more open mind to try new traditions – maybe a mince pie with a coin or even fried chicken next Christmas!
Wherever or however it is celebrated, Christmas reminds us of the importance of sharing moments, learning from others and keeping the magic alive. Merry Christmas and see you next time! 🎅🎁
