Spring School – EAS Lecture

Hello Guys, how are you? Good morning/afternoon, I'm teacher Vicky, and as teacher Guto told you today we'll talk a little about exchange. Well, I believe that most of you have the dream of leaving the country, traveling, studying, but first I came here to talk to you a little and tell you about a person I met a few years ago.

That person would sit where you are sitting, and so much, so much was going on in their head, just as it must be going on in yours, that we can't even imagine.

Hey teacher, so what, right? Stay with me and I'll quickly tell you what happened.

Just like most of us, she also came to Japan at a very young age, and all her plans, dreams and even many friends ended up being left behind, as a result of which she fell into depression, as it was very difficult to understand where she was part of, without feeling welcomed many times, and no one understood that tightness in your chest when you feel, well, empty.

And when she heard that question, the one we've all heard, “What do you want to do?” and she realizes “wow, I haven’t thought about that in a while”, what happens is that she was told so many times that she would never be “someone” that she ended up believing it, wanting to drop out of school and go to work because after all, there was nothing she could do.

But something changes in this story when people around them see for the first time this disheveled speck in the crowd, when some people, inside this school here, right there in the next room, began to see there, well, a person, a potential , that was the first step she needed, to get up, in that first light she started to realize again, how many options she had, and everything she could do.

Okay, I'm standing up, now what? With 18 years! How will I know what I do? That's it, the important thing is to do something. Shrimp that sleeps, the wave takes it!

She made a decision back there, between the easy path and the best. The easy way? We already know, right guys? The bubble in which we live often makes us believe that the only thing possible is to enter the factory, work from 8 to 5, make some money, it's cool, right? But what about the best way? In this, we make sacrifices, we cry a lot, we laugh even more, and at the end of the day we have a different feeling, a little something, we feel more complete.

With this first step, she managed to get out of that bubble and see that there is a lot out there, guys, a lot, to see that life is not just made up of work, home, work, home and this routine, but made up of much more. It's stepping outside of our comfort zone, and often realizing that we weren't even there, so comfortable there, it was just the only thing we knew.

Well, 5 years have passed since the moment this girl sat right there where you are, five years after that moment, she became a pedagogue, a teacher, a coordinator and above all much more complete. That disheveled little girl is me, nice to meet you.

And my desire to come here and talk to you today is to show that there are many, many things out there, within our reach, we just need to take the first step to extend ours.
